Friday, September 12th:
Our first stop of the morning was the Wright Brother's National Memorial where we saw the spot where flight began.  Next, we took a drove along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore with our first stop at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse (the tallest lighthouse in the U.S.)  We climbed all 282 stairs (equivalent to a 12-story building) for a great view from the top.  Headed back up the coast with a quick stop for ice cream and then to see the Bodie Lighthouse.  Next we visited Roanoke Island and stopped at Fort Raleigh National Historic Park and the Lost Colony (the spot where the first English born child was born on U.S. soil -- Virginia Dare.)  Hit the road for Raleigh and checked into our hotel.  Made a quick visit downtown to see where we would be racing on Saturday.  Had supper and then called it a night.
