RACE DAY, Saturday, September 13th: After waiting over 9 months for
this day, it arrived with great anticipation and a little nerves. We
arrive at Jillian's about 7:30 and trivia started at 8:30. 30 teams were
in place to compete and we tried our best on the trivia. We ended up answering
18 our 30 corrections correctly which was enough to get us in the first group
out of the chute (barely -- we were the 5th team of 5 to start at 9:00).
Tara jumped on the phone with Kyle & Jason and I started typing the 12
checkpoints to distribute my e-mail. Thanks to all of our help (including
Jason & Kyle, Clay Lentz from work, and my mom & dad) were were able to
figure the clues out and travel to the checkpoints in pretty organized
way. The pictures below are where we retraced our route (pictures taken
for the challenge included Tara & I both in the picture - we'll get copies
of those later). We ended running/walking almost 8 miles in 2 hours and 17
minutes. During that time, we snagged a bus ride, which helped us tremendously
because it would have meant 2.5 more miles if we had not caught the bus across
town.) Our 2 hours and 17 minutes put across the finish line in sixth
place but 3 teams were disqualified because they had not been to the correct
clues (I guess their war room was not as good as ours!). Thus, we ended
the race in 3rd place and qualified for the nationals and a free entry.
The nationals are in New Orleans on November 15th but we don't know if we'll
make. We'll decide later when we can consult the calendar. It was a
great experience and we only wish they would bring one to Little Rock.

the checkpoint clues we had to solve.
