Day Seven: We started our day with a trolley tour around Newport
seeing the various historical sites along with a drive around the mansions of
Newport. We walked along the Cliff Walk (3.5 mile walking trail along the
coast and behind many of the famous Newport mansions) and then stopped at
The Breakers, the
summer "cottage" of the Cornelius Vanderbilt family (70 rooms, built in 1895).
We left Newport for a quick drive into Providence, Rhode Island where we visited
the Roger Williams National Memorial and the State Capitol before checking into
our hotel. After a quick break, we drive back into town to see
The First Baptist Church in America,
the oldest Baptist church in America; a drive through Brown University, and
Benefit Street before stopping at
Providence
Place, a large shopping center over the Providence River.
