Day Eight:
We left Providence around 9:00 AM heading back toward Portland, Maine.  We stopped in Lowell, MA where we visited the Lowell National Historic Park (considered the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution).  We visited the Boott Cotton Mills Museum, which included a weave room with 88 operating looms.  Our next stop in Lowell was Elliott's Hot Dog Stand (considered Ed McMahon's favorite lunch stop when he's in town visiting where he was raised).  We drove further north arriving in Scarborough, Massachusetts where we checked into our inn, The Higgins Beach Inn (a colonial revival structure whose origin dates back to 1897 and is just a block from sandy Higgins Beach). We drove to the Portland Headlight (the oldest lighthouse in Maine) and then through downtown Portland before stopping for supper.  We got back to the Inn and walked along Higgins Beach for a nice sunset.
